Job description

To lead the development of compliant, efficient, and sustainable packaging across our customer base.

Responsibilities

  • Define the Group and ISS packaging strategy to enable scalable, market leading innovation, foreseeing customer and consumer trends and requirements and creating a plan to deliver the needs.
  • Align priorities to anticipate and support the commerical delivery of changes to UK packaging legislation, waste manegement infrastructure and/or customer and business requirements.
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with leading packaging suppliers and waste management handlers to find, develop and implement commercially viable packaging and technology solutions for the Group.
  • Lead the packaging development process from inception (receipt of customer brief) through production trialling, to launch, managing the critical path and working in conjunction with customer packaging and technical teams to ensure all new and existing product development is operationally, commercially, and environmentally fit for purpose.
  • In collaboration with ISS customers, build strategic relationships (where relevant) with retailer packaging teams, sharing technical expertise to support and accelerate the scale of innovation within the Group commercial framework.
  • Manage the packaging supplier approval process including due diligence to ensure all new and existing packaging meets relevant, food safety, ethical and environmental compliance requirements. Own the master approved supplier list and ensure alignment to all customer requirements.
  • Manage the packaging material specification approval process including due diligence to ensure all new and existing packaging meets relevant, food safety, ethical and environmental compliance requirements.   • Track, monitor and report on the impact of packaging development and innovation as it relates to production, packaging reduction, recyclability, cost, carbon emissions life cycle analysis and transport efficiencies.
  • Identify the effects on packaging of future statutory and market changes, amending strategy where appropriate.
  • Review and identify existing process and or existing product packaging improvements to drive cost, environmental efficiency (box heights, capacity, pallet heights) and improve site recyclability rates across primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging formats.

Qualifications

  • Good report writing skills
  • Competency in MS Office
  • A minimum of 5 years in food packaging development
  • Experience of bringing packaging innovation to the market
  • Recent experience of working with major food retailers
