Balfour Beatty VINCI is working with a range of organisations to design and build 90km West Midlands stretch of HS2 - Britain’s new high speed railway.. Our work is essential to enable HS2 trains to travel between London and Birmingham as well as continue their journey up to Manchester. It’s an incredibly exciting time to join us - we’re at peak construction with work really ramping up on a broad range of assets including bridges, tunnels and viaducts. Plus you’d join 9,000 people across 72 nationalities working on this exciting section of HS2 across the region.
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Appointed Person Lead .
This role will be based on site in Curzon Street , Birmingham.
The project’s most complex network of structures in the West Midlands, this sublot includes the Delta Junction – a triangular section of the high-speed railway made up of nine precast segmental viaducts, embankments, and other bridging structures, with around 10km of track crossing a network of motorways, roads and rivers.

• Tasked with the management, organisation, planning and control of all aspects of a lifting operation.
• Lead AP - All APs under their control have clearly defined roles, interfaces, levels of authority and areas of responsibility within the project such that all lifting operations are managed effectively, and none are overlooked
• Lead AP - All APs under their control are appointed in writing, having had their competence checked.
• Lead AP - The site has full AP coverage and that the APs have sufficient time, resources and authority to undertake their role and meet the requirements of BBV.
• A register of lifting operations in the area under their control is maintained and is used to adequately plan and manage lifting operations. Effective lift planning is conducted and recorded including lift categories, Lift Plans, risk assessments, method statements, drawings and other relevant information and that Lift Plans are appropriately reviewed.
• Suitable lifting equipment and lifting accessories for the lifting operation are selected, ensuring any complex, bespoke or unusual lifting arrangements are approved, and detailing how they will be utilised.
• Sufficient resources are appointed (e.g. Crane Coordinator) where lifting operations may clash with, for example, other lifting operations. In the absence of the appointment of a dedicated Crane Coordinator the AP will assume the Crane Coordinator responsibilities.
• Information relating to any potential loading imposed by lifting operations on supporting mediums and structures is brought to the attention of the Temporary Works Coordinator and approved as appropriate prior to being loaded.
• Adequate consultation takes place with other stakeholders where appropriate, e.g. Network Rail, to ensure effective communication as is necessary for the work to be undertaken safely.
• Sufficient records of experience are retained, e.g. logbooks, Lift Plans, RAMS, toolbox talks etc., such that a CV of experience can be established to assist in future appointments and competence demonstration.
• Responsible for the management, organisation, planning and control of all aspects of a lifting operation.
•Creating Lift Plans and issuing them to the relevant appointed person, ensuring this all lift plan are in place.
• All APs under their control have clearly defined roles, interfaces, levels of authority and areas of responsibility within the project such that all lifting operations are managed effectively, and none are overlooked.
