Balfour Beatty VINCI is working with a range of organisations to design and build 90km West Midlands stretch of HS2 - Britain’s new high speed railway. Our work is essential to enable HS2 trains to travel between London and Birmingham as well as continue their journey up. It’s an incredibly exciting time to join us - we’re at peak construction with work really ramping up on a broad range of assets including bridges, tunnels and viaducts. Plus you’d join 9,000 people across 72 nationalities working on this exciting section of HS2 across the region.

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Technical Design Coordinator within the Specialist Services function. This role will be based on site in Kingsbury, Birmingham.


Role Responsibilities:

  • MEP Coordination: Experience in coordinating and managing MEP systems within large-scale construction projects, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This involves ensuring seamless integration of these systems into the overall building design.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage the delivery of MEP packages, including scheduling, budgeting, and contractor management. Experience in overseeing multiple trades and ensuring that all MEP systems are installed correctly and on schedule.
  • Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for industrial or commercial buildings. This includes knowledge of power distribution, ventilation systems, and water management.
  • Collaboration Skills: Ability to work closely with engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure that MEP systems meet design specifications and project requirements. Excellent communication skills for liaising with various teams and resolving issues.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Experience in maintaining accurate documentation related to MEP systems, including design specifications, installation procedures, and compliance reports. Ability to produce regular progress reports and updates.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards for MEP systems, including health and safety requirements, building codes, and industry best practices.
  • No High-Voltage Experience Required: While the role involves overseeing electrical systems, high-voltage experience is not required. The focus is on managing low- to medium-voltage systems within the MEP package, including switchboards and emergency systems.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address issues that arise during the installation and commissioning of MEP systems. Ability to identify potential conflicts and find effective solutions.


Experienced required

  • Qualified Electrical, Mechanical or Building Services Engineer or similar equivalent, with multi-disciplinary breadth
  • Experience in coordinating design with several parties
  • Highly organised with good management and coordination skills 
  • Strong on technical details and with good communication skills 
  • Understanding of the construction environment for safe and buildable designs
  • Experience of working with a major contractor
  • Working knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations and current legislation and standards associated with all engineering aspects

About Balfour Beatty VINCI

Balfour Beatty VINCI is a long-established joint venture between two powerhouses for the delivery of critical infrastructure across rail, transport and other iconic projects in the UK and beyond. We started working together over 30 years ago to deliver the Channel Tunnel, as members of the TransManche Link consortium. In the Midlands, it is Balfour Beatty VINCI’s role to design and build the route, ready for tracks and signalling to be installed. Our work with HS2 Balfour Beatty VINCI have been awarded a 90km section of the HS2 project from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and then on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Overall, we will be building the following across all our sites:

• 9.3km of viaducts

• 62 overbridges

• 35 cuttings

• 56 culverts

• 62 embankments

• 2 twin bore tunnels and 2 cut and cover tunnels

• 28 underbridges and 11 underpasses
