Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) is progressing beyond infrastructure and earthworks packages to lead the construction of the vital headhouses for HS2. As part of this next phase, we are now focusing on the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems that are critical to the safe and efficient operation of the railway tunnels below ground.

We are seeking skilled professionals in MEP disciplines to take on exciting roles within the HS2 project. The headhouses play a crucial role in managing essential systems, including ventilation, power distribution, and emergency functions, ensuring the safety of the underground rail network. The ideal background for this role is candidates from a building services background, i.e. warehouses, hospitals, or other large commercial/industrial structures.

As part of this team, you'll contribute to installing and maintaining critical MEP packages, such as:

  • Pumping Systems: Responsible for drainage and groundwater management, ensuring tunnels remain dry and operational.
  • Switchboards (Electrical Distribution): Managing the electrical supply for tunnel ventilation, lighting, fire alarms, and other critical safety systems.
  • HVAC Systems: Responsible for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning within the headhouses, ensuring optimal environmental conditions for both equipment and personnel This is a unique opportunity to apply your expertise to a high-profile national project, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Britain's most ambitious rail network.


We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Electrical Engineer within the Routewide delivery team. This role will be based on-site in locations around Kingsbury and Lichfield The northernmost site of the West Midlands stretch of HS2 runs from Water Orton to Lichfield. 


Electrical Engineer working on the MEP packages for headhouses, the experience required would primarily focus on low- to medium-voltage systems and critical building services, rather than high-voltage systems.

Role Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for reviewing the final stages of the designs to confirm compliance with the design intent, under the guidance of the technical team.
  • You will coordinate with the technical team to manage incoming and outgoing transmittals from the supply chain and the designer. 
  • You will coordinate the delivery of Electrical design and ensure its delivery in accordance with BBV Project Execution Plan and Technical Assurance process.
  • You will actively participate in meetings with designers, subcontractors, and HS2 to provide valuable input and contribute to project technical discussions.

Experienced required:

  • Electrical Engineer Experience or similar equivalent. 
  • To have the 18th Edition BS7671 IEE Wiring Regulations (mandatory)
  • Good understanding of building services concepts and principles
  • Proficiency in using computer software and applications relevant to the field.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to analyse technical documents.
  • Good understanding of building services concepts and principles.

About Balfour Beatty VINCI

Balfour Beatty VINCI have been awarded a 90km section of the HS2 project from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and then on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Overall, we will be building the following across all our sites:

• 9.3km of viaducts

• 62 overbridges

• 35 cuttings

• 56 culverts

• 62 embankments

• 2 twin bore tunnels and 2 cut and cover tunnels

• 28 underbridges and 11 underpasses
