Electronics Repair and Calibration Technician

Job description

  • Perform routine calibration of electronic and fiber optic test equipment following established procedures.
  • Diagnose faults with electronic and fiber optic test equipment.
  • Repair and calibration of fiber optic fusion splicing equipment.
  • Maintain documentation pertaining to the service process.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all Calibration/Service and Repair of TREND Networks products.
  • Ensure the efficient handling of customer products arriving and leaving the service department.
  • Responsible for the creation of required certificates, KPI reports and all other relevant paperwork.
  • Fault find (troubleshoot) and repair to component level surface mount and conventional PCB assemblies.
  • Fault find (troubleshoot) and repair fiber optic assemblies.
  • Coordinate with Production if they are required to repair customer units.
  • Schedule work as required to meet customer deadlines. 
  • Thoroughly document all work performed on customer’s equipment and log each process stage on the company’s RMA system.
  • Prepare service quotes/estimates and invoices.
  • Invoice customers for completed work.
  • Prepare shipping documentation for outgoing testers and advise tracking information.
  • Ensure that all test and calibration equipment is in date in accordance with quality systems.
  • Control the spare parts warehouse and ensure business is able to meet customers’ needs.
  • Responsible for ensuring RMAs meet company SLAs.
  • Maintain an up to date and comprehensive knowledge of the Company’s products.
  • Make suggestions and/or recommendations on processes that may lead to departmental improvements.
  • Ensure that all activities are undertaken and controlled in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Flexibility to perform any other tasks as required for the business

Qualifications

Essential

Certified Production Technician (CPT) or equivalent
High School Diploma/GED

Preferable

Soldering certification – IPC-A-610 or equivalent rework/repair certification.

Associates degree in electronics/optical technology or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • 2 years’ technical experience in repair and calibration of electronic equipment/instruments or technical experience working within an electronics production environment.
  • Experience with optical and fiber optic technologies – fusion splicing Use of an ERP or RMA system
  • An understanding of circuit schematics and troubleshooting methods
  • Experience with oscilloscope & DMM
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Packages – Word & Excel
  • Ability to inspect and recognize defective products
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of working within a Quality Management System environment

Preferable

  • Experience of working in an environment where a physical/technical product is at the core of the business
  • Installation/Field work of network cabling test systems.
  • Experience of process improvement, LEAN principles, Six Sigma, 80/20 etc.
  • Experience with optical power meter and optical light source
